Thom Janssen is a designer with a love for type and typography. He graduated in 2012 from the Graphic Design, BA course and 2017 from Type]Media, MA at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague.

Currently Thom is working as HalloType and focuses on type technology and type production.

Geen Bitter
2012 - 2014

Geen Bitter was a graphic design studio. The first assignment the Zinnebeeld typefaces. Geen Bitter won for these fonts a European Design Award, Original Typeface in 2013. In 2014 Geen Bitter won again a European Design Award now in category of Self initiated Project, for the Gewone letters, Gerrit’s early models project. Dutch Type Library, ’s–Hertogenbosch

During my internship I worked on the revivals of The Fell Types and Jan van Krimpen’s Sheldon. I also did research on the different diacritics and their positions. I used this information to extent the Albertina typefaces.

Since the day RoboFont was launched I switched from FontLab to RoboFont. Since that day I set RF to my hand. I make my own script and tools.


DrawBot is a two dimensional drawing app which uses Python. In fact I learned Python though DrawBot. Almost all the images on this website are generated/produced with DrawBot. It plays a huge part in the coloured pixel project for example.(
